APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Applications for PGY1 positions are considered only through ERAS, and should include:

  • Dean’s letter and medical school transcripts
  • Three letters of reference
  • USMLE Transcripts
  • A personal statement
  • A passport-style photograph is appreciated, but not required

Applicants from international medical schools must also submit the following through ERAS before your application can be reviewed:

  • Unrestricted letter of eligibility for training issued by the Medical Board of California*
  • ECFMG certification
  • USMLE Transcripts, Part I and Part II

Employment and eligibility verification documents for authorization to work in the USA are required upon acceptance to the program. St. Mary's Medical Center does not sponsor H-1 or J-1 visas.

Applicants for advanced level positions (PGY2 /3):

If advanced level positions become available in the program, interviews will be conducted following the uniform appointment date in accordance with the policies of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. Please notify your current program director before applying. Interviews are conducted by invitation and should be arranged in advance of your planned visit to the Bay Area.  All applicants will require a letter of recommendation from their program director.  Note that a California license must be obtained as soon as possible after acceptance, but no later than the first day of the 25th month of post graduate training, regardless of where that training has been performed.
